The Ball High School robotics team rose to the challenge and triumphed with ruthless abandon in the Cypress Ridge Tournament on Sunday, November 10th. Two Ball High teams won the tournament, but only one qualified for the state tournament. With their dominating performance the Tor robotic team 400C and their maniacal machine qualified for the state tournament to be held in April.

Ball High powered their way to five of the Top Ten teams for the finals, in spite of the fact that fifteen schools participated. The Tors’ mechanical monsters made a junk yard of the competition, the defeated robots wandering aimlessly in futile disarray while their controllers frantically pulled their control box levers, to little avail.

Each year the competition changes. This year’s game is Turning Point. Score caps. The caps sit on the ground and competitors must flip the caps, colored red and blue to signify the teams competing, and using the flippers on the robots, score (place) them on one of the six poles stationed in the arena.

Coach Brian Massey’s superior knowledge and experience definitely proved a valuable advantage for the Tor Roboteers. He provided steady leadership for the teams’ success against their competitors, specifically against Katy in the finals.

Members of the championship team going to state are Jacob Theissen, Diana Martinez-Rodriguez, and Jimena Sanchez.

Congratulations to the state-bound 400C champions!
