The Ball High Boys of Summer sent the Crosby Cougars scampering back across the causeway with their tails between their legs in the aftermath of a 6-2 shellacking put on the Cougars by the Tors.

On a beautiful afternoon for baseball, the Tor varsity (9-4-2, 2-1) banged out just enough hits sandwiched between seven walks and two hit batters to eke out a 6-2 win against Crosby (1—2, 1-2), a team that knocked the Tors out of the state playoffs in two of the last three years.

Senior right-hander Keegan Gavin notched his first win of the season for the Tors with five innings of six-hit pitching. The Cougars outhit the Tors 6-5; but six walks, two hit batters and four errors by the Cougars enabled the Tors to keep the Cougars at bay. Sophomore right-hander Ryan Blacketer pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Tors to put the game away.

Ball High leftfielder Jaylan Nixon led the Tors offense with two RBIs on one hit and two walks.  Trent Raschke, Chris Orton and Spencer Addison each knocked in a run for the Tors.

Clutch fielding and pitching by Ball High’s Gavin left 12 Cougars stranded on the bases on an afternoon when bases loaded scenarios seemed par for the course, including the fifth inning when the Tor defense turned a rare 1-2-3 double play to squash a last gasp rally by the Cougars.

Next up for the Tors is a Friday afternoon home game against the Friendswood Mustangs. Tune in to K-Tor the Tornado and hear all the action on a live-stream feed over the Internet.
