The Santa Fe Indians eked out a 3-2 walk-off win against the Ball High Tors Friday evening, assuring themselves of at least a tie for first place (7-1) in District 22 5A with Goose Creek (6-1) while sending the Tors reeling into second place (6-2).

Tor hurler Keegan Gavin and Indian starter Dalton Stevens hooked up in a proverbial barn burner, each pitcher dominating the other teams’ hitters through five innings before the Indians broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth by scoring two runs to take a 3-2 lead into the top of the seventh, the Tors last chance at bat.

Chris Orton and Edgar Salinas scored in the second to give the Tors a 2-1 lead they held on to until the bottom of the sixth when Indian first baseman Rome Shubert connected with a Gavin fastball to send a screaming line drive over the left field fence to tie the game at two runs apiece. Shubert also knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off sacrifice fly ball that scored Grant Pfaff to end the game.

The Tors swing back into action 6 p.m. Tuesday against Galena Park (4-4), a game that was scheduled as a home game, but because of the chemical explosion along the ship channel two weeks ago Galena Park visited Galveston for their scheduled home game. You can catch all the Tor baseball action on KTOR the Tornado.
