The Ball High Tors fell to the Friendswood Mustangs 7-6 Tuesday evening in Friendswood when the Tors late rally fell one run short. The win keeps the Mustangs playoff hopes alive and dropped Ball High to 8-3 in district 22-5A, one game ahead of the third place Mustangs (7-4) and Goose Creek Memorial (7-4). With three games left in the season, the four playoff spots in 22-5A remain up for grabs.

Friendswood scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth when the usually tough Tor pitching faltered with a few walks, hit batsemen, throwing error and a mighty blast off the centerfield wall ran the score to 7-1 in favor of the Mustangs.

The Tors refused to quit, an attribute of a solid ball club, and rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth to pull within one run, but the Tors couldn’t manage to eke across another run in the seventh to push the game into extra innings.

“I’m really, really proud of our team, because it’s easy for a high school team to shut it down when it’s 7-1, and we answered back with five,” said Ball High head coach Russell Ferrell. “We’re not the type of team that’s going to hit it out of the park, but we’re going to take some walks, get some bunts down, put the ball in play and make the other team get us out.

“So I’m not happy that we lost, but I’m happy with the way we answered back.”

The Tors play at home Thursday, facing last place Baytown Lee at 6 p.m. Catch all the action on KTOR the Tornado!
