Galveston ISD Announces New Head Football Coach/Athletic Coordinator

GALVESTON, TX (February 6, 2020) – Sheldon Bennight has been named the Head Football Coach/Athletic Coordinator at Galveston Ball High School. Coach Bennight comes to Ball High with 25 years of experience as an educator and coach.  He was most recently at North Shore High School in Galena Park ISD, where he served as the Assistant Head Football Coach, Running Backs Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.  He has also worked as an Offensive Coordinator. He has a proven, successful track record as he has coached in 4 state championship games with 2 different football programs, winning 3 championships, including back to back 6A state titles in 2018 and 2019.

 

Bennight says, “It is an extreme honor to have the opportunity to lead a program rich in history and tradition.  The staff and I will work diligently to bring success and honor back to the Tor Football Program.  We will establish pillars of excellence in our football program.  These foundations will include leadership, discipline, integrity, character development and hard work.”

 

Coach Bennight has had the opportunity to work for and be mentored by some tremendous coaches in Texas High School Football.  He is bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to Galveston ISD and Ball High School. He states, “As athletic coordinator, I plan to unite all athletic programs and become a true family of teams. I want to create a network of support for one another and increase participation on all levels, of all sports. We will do this by creating an atmosphere that is fun and inviting to the kids.”

 

Sheldon Bennight is married to Jessica who is currently an Assistant Principal at Deer Park High School.  They have a 3-year-old son, Jackson.  Coach Bennight will be hard at work with the Ball High football program before the end of the month. Bennight explains, “Our goal is for every athlete that comes through our program to leave as a better person than when they entered. Our philosophy is going to be based on one thing: The Constant Pursuit of Improvement. We will narrow our focus to improving each day and use those days as building blocks to return Galveston back to prominence!”Image result for sheldon bennight
